An early mosaic of the Baptism of Christ (c.6 BC-AD 30) by his cousin John the Baptist. The River Jordan is personified as a bearded river god witnessing the scene and the dove above Christ's head represents the Holy Spirit, which descends as a voice from the heavans and declares: "This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased."
