The Renaissance signified a revival in the influence of classicism in the arts. Although predominantly believed to refer to Italian art, this work by artist Hans Baldung Grien (1484-1545) illustrates that its influence spread much further. the Three Graces, goddesses of grace and beauty, also represented the aspects of generosity - giving, receiving and returning. Their popularity throughout the Renaissance provided artists with ample opportunity to show off their prowess in depicting the female nude.
